Coach Bios

Roy Hash, Head Coach and founder of TEXOMA Judo and Ju Jitsu, of Wichita Falls, TX began studying Judo in 1966. He is a former United States Army Ranger and Special Forces combat veteran. He retired from the 5 Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, KY as Chief Warrant Officer after 26 years of service in 1999. Mr. Hash was designated a master hand-to-hand combatives instructor by the 5th and 10th Special Forces Groups (Airborne). From the 1990’s to the present he competed and won numerous medals at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels. In 1999, during his first year as a head coach, two of his players, Carol Rice and Brad Sanchez, were designated the USJA’s Outstanding Junior and Senior players, for the State of Texas. Coach Hash earned a Gold medal at the 2001 National Armed Forces Judo championship, in the master’s heavyweight division, winning all matches by ippon. In 2003, Roy received a Gold medal at the AAU National Judo Championships in the Masters Heavyweight division. Roy earned Bronze medals at the 2005 and 2006 Pan-Am Masters Championships. Roy is ranked as Godan (5Degree) Black Belt in both Judo and Ju Jitsu. He is certified as a National level Coach by both USA Judo and the United States Judo Association (USJA). He is a former Vice President and active Board member of the USJA. He also is serving the USJA as the committee chair for its Development committee. As the Head Coach of TEXOMA Judo, he has trained and developed Judo Players who have earned numerous medals from the local to the international level. Several of his competitors are listed in the USJA’s Outstanding Competitors’ Hall of Fame at the state level and 1 competitor received the National award.

Carl Plummer is one of the original 6 students at Texoma Judo and is currently the assistant coach. He started his judo career in 1962 in Sheppard Dojo, an Armed Forces Judo Association club, but after the dissolution of that club quit practicing judo for 30 years. During that time away from judo he earned a Nidan in Kenpo and competed regularly in Karate tournaments. Upon returning to judo in 1998, he focused on judo and jujitsu, earning his Sandan in Judo (07/2007) and his Nidan in Jujitsu (07/2007.) His competition career includes silver medals in two Pan American Masters tournaments and a Bronze medal in the 2005 World Masters Judo Championship in Mississauga, Canada and a Silver medal in the 2010 World Masters Judo Championship in Montreal, Canada. Carl also has medaled in several State Championship tournaments and National Championship tournaments, winning the Masters division in both the USJA/USJF Winter Nationals and the San Jose Buddhist tournament in the winter of 2008/2009. Carl again won the Winter Nationals in 2010. In addition to judo at the Texoma dojo, Carl teaches judo as a physical education class for 3 through 8 graders at Bright Ideas Charter School. He is certified as a “C” level coach with the USJA and as a Continental level coach with USA Judo.

Gant Grimes has trained in judo, jujitsu, and Kenpo Karate for over eighteen years. An active competitor, he has won multiple masters titles in judo, including the Texas state tournament. Prior to judo, he competed in kickboxing and full-contact competitions. Over the years, Gant has taught private self-defense lessons, freestyle fighting, weapons exhibitions, women's self-defense seminars, Military Police defensive tactics, and military hand-to-hand combat. In addition to martial arts, Gant's work as a strength coach has been published in fitness journals, and he has been a featured speaker at several fitness seminars. Gant is the primary instructor for the jujitsu class and an assistant coach for the children's and adult judo classes. He is also the co-founder and head coach of the Straight Street Judo Club, a free judo program offered to at-risk youth in the community.
